Why did you take my innocence?
I dwelt in a nest of mice.

When the Cats came, one was hungry
and gobbled Mom right up.

That was alright, Dad said,
she was dying anyway,
and wanted to see her mother.

The cat was full and confused, for a moment,
time enough for Dad to stand firm and block the Gate
time enough for chitling starlings to take flight

but no time to save himself.  not then.  Maybe I'll see Him round the corner...

though

it's a long wait,
when cheese crumbs are smaller than the clods of dirt
that owls drop on my head.

Raccoons feverishly wash hands
as their young dig in garbage

the white owl flees in silent moon"ar" flight
and I wish I could swallow Luna, too.
